Who makes up Teens Who Invest?
Teens Who Invest is a unique team of students from Leland High School who are all driven towards concepts regarding financial literacy and advocating for change in our community. Learn more about us down below!
Ria Kumar: President and Founder
Hi! My name is Ria Kumar and I am a junior at Leland High School. I am also a small business owner, an entrepreneur, an athlete, a pianist, and a Girl Scout. I started Teens Who Invest to help my community and peers take an interest in personal finance and love every aspect of managing their own money and running their own businesses. I am currently the owner of my own piano studio, Tunes For All, a business that I have raised and run as a sole proprietor for over 2 years, with over 15 students. Most importantly, running my own small business has taught me to appreciate the importance of being financially literate and managing my money. A fun fact about me is that I performed on the piano at Carnegie Hall in New York with the Classical piece - Valse Caressante by Ottorino Respighi, which is often played on the violin.
Mica Montali: Digital Content Coordinator
Hello! My name is Mica Montali and I am a junior at Leland High School. Before moving homes, I used to own a successful dog walking business where I had over 5 consistent clients. Oftentimes, I would dog sit my clients' dogs when they went out of town. When it comes to the business field, I was able to successfully create my own dog walking business and get a good client base. Currently, I am on Leland's Varsity Basketball team for the 2024-2025 season and I am a serious student athlete and volunteer. With a couple of friends, I adopted Glenview Park and, working with Boys Team Charity, I make sure the park is kept up to its monthly standards. Very similar to Ria, I want teenagers to have the tools to learn and invest freely because schools tend to not teach students about investing and therefore, limit our learning.
Esha Kumar: Director of Research
Hi! I'm Esha Kumar and I am a freshman at Leland High School. I joined Girl Scouts in kindergarten, and over the years, it has helped me grow into someone who enjoys connecting with others. I’ve learned how to collaborate with people who have different perspectives and developed many valuable skills along the way. Outside of that, I’m a pianist working toward completing all 10 levels of piano, and I enjoy playing volleyball with my friends and team. I’m also a research intern for Teens Who Invest, a nonprofit organization focused on teaching our community, about personal finance and business. I’m passionate about making financial education more accessible and helping others understand important topics like saving, investing, and entrepreneurship. Through this role, I hope to empower young people with the knowledge they need to make smart choices for their future.
Arushi Yagnik: Operations Secretary
Hi! I’m Arushi Yagnik, a junior at Leland High School. Being in ASB for two years has given me experience with budgeting and managing stocks. I’ve learned how to track expenses, plan resources, and see how investments impact long-term results. I play lacrosse and enjoy science, which has inspired my interest in the medical field. Outside of school, I like art, piano, volunteering, and spending time with friends. I’m part of two nonprofits, one that raises awareness about malnutrition and another where I make cards for kids with cancer. I also help with my dad’s photography business, which has taught me about budgeting and investing. Through Teens Who Invest, I want to help students learn how to manage their money.
Thea Cuboni: Media and Outreach
Hey! My name is Thea Cuboni and I attend Leland High School as a Junior. Alongside being a part of the student body, I am an athlete, coach, and entrepreneur. At Leland, I lead and encourage school spirit as a Varsity Cheerleader! I also coach at a local gymnastics and acro Gym and teach young kids recreationally. Both of these experiences have led me to engage with the community and participate in the economy, including experiencing the impact of taxes on a monthly pay check. Being a part of other projects like the children’s business fair, as a youth vendor, and starting a babysitting business, when I was younger, taught me about budgeting, supply and demand, and net profit. And of course being a teenager who loves to shop, money management is something I have had the privilege of learning. With this, I hope to give other teens and kids the privilege of financial literacy.”
