When I had written a blog last in August, I was an intern with Teens Who Invest. My role was to research different topics on financial literacy and assist Ria in creating the slides and other content to present to audiences.
The definition of Research in dictionaries is “Research is the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions”. That really appeals to me.
I enjoy digging for information, looking up resources, gathering data on what is important and identifying new topics that support all the work we do. Since these topics are not taught in school, the study of materials is done by Ria and me. The challenging parts of course are two-fold - one challenge is to research topics that are relevant to people young like us or even younger than us, and the other challenge is distilling the information in a way that is easy to deliver and is also easily understood.
I assisted Ria with the creation of 6 sets of elaborate slides on researched lessons, and counting. Seeing my dedication, Teens Who Invest decided to offer me the option of staying on full time as a team member. I am now the Director of Research. I like the title, it does justice to my passion.
I am a natural researcher. My parents say it is in my DNA. I'd have to agree. I am a scientist by preference, a mathematician too. But now that I have been with Teens Who Invest for months as an attendee, then as an intern, and now as the Research Director, I love the area of Financial studies now and am excited to know what else is in store for me. Perhaps in the future I might do a dual degree in STEM and Finance. The possibilities are limitless.
